Why Lezama

A goalkeeping tradition

At Athletic Club, goalkeeping has always held a special place. It is a position nurtured from the earliest stages, with patience and a shared idea of what it means to be a goalkeeper.

That idea takes shape at Lezama. Goalkeepers such as Unai Simón have come through here, and behind each of them there is a method, a department and a way of looking at the position.

This programme shares that way of working with coaches who train goalkeepers at other clubs.

Voices of the programme

The modern goalkeeper no longer waits for the game: they start it. Coaching them today means looking at the position with fresh eyes, without losing what has always defined it.
Miguel EscalonaTeaching staff
The match always tells the truth. The key is knowing what to look for and how to bring it back to training.
Manex SagarnaTeaching staff
Goalkeepers live with mistakes like no other position. Preparing them for that is part of coaching too.
